Solid residential fire in Pernersdorf - 15 fire brigades in action!

Pernersdorf, Österreich - On June 12, 2025, there was a massive apartment fire in Perner's village, Hollabrunn district, Lower Austria. Numerous fire departments were alerted to the use after a massive column of smoke was already visible from afar. When the emergency services arrived, the flames hit the roof structure of the heavily winding and densely installed building, which included several parts of the building connected to barns. The dense development and a high proportion of flammable material represented special challenges for the extinguishing work.

The extinguishing measures were comprehensive: four extinguishing pipes were used to combat the fire and to protect adjacent buildings. In addition, a turntable ladder from Hollabrunn was used to support the extinguishing work from height. Due to several defligence caused by stored fabrics and a gas bottle, the location also got out of control. The water supply was also a problem because the local care was insufficient. Tank fire engines had to be used to take water.

an excellent team of emergency services

A total of 105 fire brigade members with 24 vehicles from various fire brigades were on site, supported by three police patrols and two vehicles from the Red Cross as well as employees of the NÖ/EV network. During the extinguishing work, a drone with a thermal imaging camera was also used for location exploration. Fortunately, a missing person who was reported by a resident could not be confirmed.

In addition to this use, another fire was reported this morning in a tractor -trailer on Autobahn 57 in Germany. Here was a truck that was loaded with Euro pallets. The fire chief Stefan Bömler alerted additional extinguishing groups, while the Krefeld running direction had to be fully blocked for about over an hour. Here, too, the column of smoke was visible from a great distance, which indicated a larger fire. However, the truck driver had reacted in good time and directed the tractor-trailer to the roadside, which was avoided.

A look at the fire risks worldwide

In the context of these fire events, the Center for Fire Statistics of the CFIF (CFS-CTIF) regularly publishes reports on fire events worldwide. In 2023, report No. 28, which comprises data from 38 states and 26 major cities for 2021. In the second part, fire causes are analyzed in 66 countries. The project "100 Cities - 100 Years - Evaluation of Urban Fire Risks" is also interesting, which evaluates the development of urban fire risks in the 20th century and illuminates the fire risk in the largest cities in the world.

The data and findings collected are crucial in order to understand how to deal with fire phenomena in urban centers and to better assess future dangers. In this way, references to international risk trends and the development of fire risk can be created, with forecasts for future centuries. The comprehensive data collection has largely been completed and the evaluation of the numbers is underway.
