Marco Schwarz: Comeback in the slalom – Austria’s skiing hope is back!

Fantastic news for the fans of the Austrian ski team! Marco Schwarz makes his eagerly awaited comeback after a long injury break. Next Sunday the Carinthian will compete in the slalom in Val d’Isère. This comes just over a year after his serious fall at the World Cup race in Bormio, where he tore his cruciate ligament and suffered several other injuries in his right knee, including a meniscus tear and cartilage damage.

A fight back on the slopes

Schwarz described his challenging recovery process and emphasized that the last few days were crucial for him: “I felt that things were getting easier again, that I no longer had to think much about my body.” His return had been greatly delayed by a traumatic injury and subsequent disc surgery that troubled him over the summer. Nevertheless, Schwarz managed to get back into the competition quicker than initially planned, which gave him a lot of euphoria and anticipation for the start.

His return to slalom training only took place a week ago. Schwarz had a clear goal in mind: "I wanted to start before Christmas. The long-term goal would have been Alta Badia." The 29-year-old is considered one of the most ambitious ski racers and, before his injury, was Marco Odermatt's biggest rival in the fight for the overall World Cup. This return not only represents a personal comeback, but also revives memories of his pre-injury form. The anticipation for the competition is great: “It’s going to be really cool!” as he states with a smile. This news was reported by both Laola1 as well as from Bluewin confirmed.
