HLW Lienz inspires coffee connoisseurs: students conquer the coffee world!
Lienz, Österreich - 12 students of the first and second class of the HLW Lienz successfully completed the coffee connoisseur exam in the school year 2024/25. This initiative is part of the new training focus "Vital", which in HLW Lienz puts on health and enjoyment. Already in the first class, the students deal intensively with the origin, cultivation and the professional preparation of coffee.
The training not only conveys theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills. It serves as preparation for various professional paths and includes practical experience, such as a barista course. In this course, the students learn the craft of preparing coffee and dealing with different machines.
Details for examination
of the 19 students of the Vital branch took seven the voluntary coffee connoisseur exam and passed them. In addition, five second class students have completed their training as a voluntary additional qualification. Six other second class students also took part in the exam, which was made up of a written knowledge review and a sensory test.
An essential part of the exam was that the candidates created coffee drinks on the espresso machine and perfect milk foam. The production of a coffee specialty that was either served with or without alcohol was an additional challenge. The examination committee, consisting of specialists such as Ms. Mona Schöffl and Ms. Dipl.-Päd. Regina Strobl was impressed by the knowledge and practical skills of the test subjects.
Barista World and training opportunities
The company Barista World plays an equally important role in the coffee area, which offers a variety of barista courses and training concepts. These training courses are aimed at gastronomy and interested private individuals and convey profound coffee knowledge as well as the practical art of coffee cooking.
The Barista World coaching team consists of national top baristas who convey knowledge about various areas of coffee to the participants, from the bean to the perfect preparation. The topics include introduction to coffee, cupping and sensors, as well as special courses on latte art and taste optimization.
Thanks to the combination of theoretical knowledge and practical application, both educational strands that are offered at HLW Lienz and Barista World offer the pupils a valuable qualification for their future professional end.
