Mayor election in Wolfsberg: Who will follow Hannes Primus?

A decisive mayoral election is imminent in Wolfsberg. On September 14, 2025, the city will choose a new mayor after Hannes Primus, who was elected in 2021 with 65.53% of the vote, died in May 2023 at the age of 48. The by -election attracts the interest of the citizens because the political challenges are great.

The three applicants for the post are the incumbent vice mayor Alexander Radl from the SPÖ, the ÖVP City Councilor Josef Steinkellner and the Green Councilor Reinhard Stückler. It is noteworthy that the FPÖ has waived a candidacy, which could influence the turnout and the election campaign. In Wolfsberg, a total of 20,711 voters are registered who can vote in 43 polling stations.

Election campaign and topics

The election campaign focuses heavily on the city's financial challenges. The urban deficit is currently 5.1 million euros, which leads to discussions about budget cuts and savings measures. Specific measures that are discussed concern the urban markets and subsidies. Another point in the discussions is the possible reorganization of the municipal utilities to the municipal administration.

The pre -selection days, which took place on September 5, showed that 456 people were dismissed and 1,909 election cards were issued. When choosing the actual choice, the polling stations open at 8 a.m., whereby the closing times are graded: some close at 1 p.m., more at 2 p.m., while most close at 3 p.m. to unload the votes.

Subscription and counting

If none of the candidates receive the intended majority of over 50 percent of the votes, a runoff election between the two most voting applicants will take place on September 28. After closing the polling stations, the counting of the votes will begin, the final results are to be announced about two to two and a half hours later, checked in the Wolfsberg town hall.
