A2 South Autobahn: Final sprint of the renovation between Gräberntunnel and Wolfsberg
In an important infrastructure project, the A2 South Autobahn is finally ready for operation again. For a total of nine months, extensive renovation work has been held on a six-kilometer section between the Gräberntunnel and Wolfsberg-Nord. Both lanes and 15 bridges were thoroughly revised.
The work is almost completely completed, and Walter Mocnik, spokesman for ASFINAG, announced that the construction site will officially end at the end of November. The return of the traffic routing is planned for the end of the month, and from December 5, 2024, the entire area should be released for traffic again.
investments of 17 million euros
A total of 17 million euros were invested for this renovation. A special focus was on the bridges, where 30 so -called lane transition constructions were replaced. These special steel structures are important because they enable the movement of the bridges and at the same time compensate for temperature fluctuations. Such measures are crucial to ensure the security and longevity of the highway.
After the work is almost complete, road users can look forward to a more smooth and safer journey. The project not only shows the use of funds and resources, but also the importance of continuous maintenance and improvement in the traffic infrastructure in Austria.
