Yesterday the e5 gold status for energy efficiency, renewable energy and environmentally friendly mobility was officially confirmed. This is the third time the city has achieved this significant status, highlighting its continued commitment to sustainable initiatives. Energy and mobility consultantState Councilor Sebastian Schuschnigemphasized the variety of measures Villach has taken and congratulated the city on its gold medal. The first gold status was awarded in 2016.

mayorGünther Albelexplained that Villach was the first major city to undergo an alternative e5 assessment this year, using stricter criteria. This shows the city's clear commitment to the strategic orientation of climate protection and the establishment of the necessary structures.

Awards and sustainability strategies

The confirmation of e5 Gold status was announced as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the e5 Awards in MaltaSustainability Officer Vice Mayor Sarah Katholnigaccepted. She emphasized that the city has made an impression not only through its photovoltaic strategy, but also through the expansion of cycle paths and sustainable procurement. Mayor Albel added that innovation is a lived practice in Villach, for example through projects such as Redevelopment Plus and collaboration with external partners in sustainable urban development.

The city of Villach joined the e5 project in 2009 and has since then constantly invested in improving energy efficiency. The mayor and deputy mayor also thanked the state for its support, especially for funding for heating replacement and photovoltaic systems.
