Violent storms in Tyrol: Baum falls on the car - luck in misfortune!

Pill, Österreich - On June 26, 2025, Tyrol experienced a violent storm that affected large parts of the federal state. Reports from 5min.at describe the dramatic effects, including torn trees, windbones and heavy heavy rain that transformed the landscape into a white area. In the Schwaz district in particular, the storms tore damage when a tree fell on a moving car. Fortunately, the driver of the car driving uphill was unharmed.

The storm occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the Pill municipal area, where another tree fell on the roof of a house and caused considerable damage there. In other parts of Tyrol, such as in Kramsach in the Kufstein district, there were considerable impairments due to the hailstorms. Hailcorns reached sizes of up to five centimeters and, especially in Kitzbühel, ensured a snow-covered sight how webcam photos documented.

consequences of the storm

The effects of the storms were particularly visible in joining in the Zillertal, where numerous cellars were flooded. The Unders volunteer fire brigade turned to the public on Facebook and informed about the need to take cautious measures to limit damage. Photos that were shared on social media show the enormous damage to car windows by the hail.

These natural events are in the context of a story in which people in alpine regions have always been confronted with natural hazards. Information on the danger and the risks of natural events are collected in the Naturchronik von Tirol. This collection documents events from historical and current sources and was carried out by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Franz Fliri led.

importance of event documentation

The Natberronik is not only an important archive for the meaning and the danger potential of natural processes, but also illustrates the relationship between man and nature in Tyrol. Although the past shows that natural hazards were omnipresent, awareness of this is often only awaited in major damage events. The collection covers a period of 172 AD to the present day and offers valuable insights into the challenges caused by nature forces.

Overall, the last storm events illustrate the need to prepare for such natural phenomena and to better understand the treasures underwards. While the immediate damage is clearly visible, the long-term assessment and documentation of such events remains of crucial importance for future damage prevention and risk management in Tyrol.
