Grasser under pressure: OGH decides on Buwog judgment in March!
A central judicial case is imminent: The Supreme Court (OGH) will decide in March whether the high prison terms for ex-finance minister Karl-Heinz Grasser and his co-accused Mark Meischberger and Peter Hochegger will remain. These were convicted in the BUWOG causa after the negotiations on a period of 168 days and a previous seven -year investigation phase took place. Grasser received a prison sentence of eight years, while Meischberger and Hochegger had to serve seven and six years. These decisions were made on the basis of serious allegations, including infidelity, forgery of evidence and the assumption of illegal gifts, reports the crown.
Fate day in March
The OGH has determined the dates for the negotiations, which are expected to take place from March 20 to 25. Alternatively, the negotiation could be made up for in the Holy Week from April 14th to 17th if the defenders provide authorized objections to the specified data. These legal steps are the last attempt by the convicted persons to contest the judgments and possibly to remove or weaken the prison terms, such as the standard reported.
Causa Buwog is not only another process in the long series of scandals around Austrian politics, but also throws a bright light on the practices during the privatization of federal apartments during Grasser's term. It is believed that there were secret agreements over 9.6 million euros of commissions, some of which benefited. While Grasser described the verdict as a "smooth misjudgment", his co -accused and their lawyers accused the judge's bias. This highly explosive process will be observed in the coming weeks, since it could significantly influence the political climate in Austria.
