On the night of February 3, 2025, a spectacular attack occurred at the Rheintal Ost motorway service station. Shortly after 1:30 a.m., unknown perpetrators blew up an ATM with explosives, causing massive property damage amounting to tens of thousands of francs. After the explosion, the criminals fled towards Sargans on the A13 motorway in a white Fiat Panda that had previously been stolen in Chur VOL.AT reported.
Immediately after the incident, the St. Gallen cantonal police launched an intensive search. The getaway vehicle was seen briefly before the perpetrators stopped the car on the highway. They continued their escape on foot, crossed a wildlife fence and disappeared into an adjacent forest. Despite the use of drones and police dogs, they managed to escape undetected. The investigations are continuing in collaboration with the Zurich Forensic Institute and the Federal Police, as well nau.ch reported.
The cantonal police are asking the public for help. Witnesses who have information about the perpetrator or their escape are asked to call +41 58 229 49 49. It is currently being investigated whether the perpetrators stole cash from the ATM. The investigation is in full swing to bring those responsible to justice.
