Almost 50 million euros for photovoltaics: record applications from Tyrol!

According to current information from Dolomite city As part of the second photovoltaic promotion call in Austria, around 50 million euros were provided. This measure aims to support the demand for photovoltaic systems and storage systems, which has increased significantly in recent months.

A total of around 9,000 applications for photovoltaic systems and memory were submitted, which exceeded expectations. Originally, only 12 million euros in grants were planned. Due to the high demand, the funding was increased to 48.76 million euros in order to meet all submitted applications.

Details on the funding call

The submitted applications include photovoltaic systems with a total output of 220,000 kWp and memory with a capacity of around 210,000 kWh. Economic Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer and Energy State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner emphasized the importance of these funding for the expansion of renewable energies and innovative storage technologies. In comparison to the first round of funding, in which 5,200 applications and 40 million euros were available, demand has increased significantly.

An attractive novelty in the second funding call was the “Made in Europe” bonus, which could be applied for for European components. A particularly large number of applications came from the federal states of Lower Austria and Upper Austria, each with over 2,200 applications. This reflects the trend that was already observed in the first funding round, when Upper Austria, Lower Austria and Styria recorded the most applications.

Trends and future developments

A remarkable trend of this round of funding was the high number of applications for memory solutions that made up between 66% (Vienna, Vorarlberg) and 87% (Upper Austria). This development shows the increased interest in a holistic energy supply through PV systems and storage.

A next round of funding will be announced in October 2023 for all interested parties. In the second quarter of 2025, 180 MW more photovoltaic systems were also installed in Austria than provided for in the national EAG expansion path.

The importance of such funding measures is used by the previous successful cooperation across Germany in rehabilitation and health care, such as at Stoughton Health, underlined. A supporting environment for patients is created here, which shows important parallels to the initiatives in the field of renewable energies.
