Honorable for merits: Lower Austria sets signs for future!
On June 25, 2025, Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner presented a total of 47 honorary signs in the Lower Austrian state parliament in St. Pölten. The awards included 39 honorary signs of services to Lower Austria, four professional titles, two signs of honor for merits around the Republic of Austria and two federal honorary badges. Mikl-Leitner emphasized the importance of this honor in a challenging time, alluding to the killing spree in Graz, the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East as well as the US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.
The governor particularly emphasized the quality of life in Lower Austria, which is characterized by excellent health care and a stable social network. In this context, she announced the 2040+ health plan, which was developed by over 50 experts to secure health care for future generations. She expressed their thanks and respect for the approximately 27,000 employees in clinics and nursing homes.
health care in focus
A central element of the health plan is digitization in healthcare. According to a five -point plan, presented by State Councilor Ludwig Schleritzko, modern technologies and digital solutions are intended to increase the efficiency of documentation work. Digitization includes, among other things, the introduction of digital speech recognition, which is already used in some clinics in Lower Austria. This technology should not only reduce bureaucracy, but also increase the time for patient care.
The plan was involved in the participation of experts like Dr. Markus Klamminger, Director of Medicine and Care of the State Health Agency Lower Austria, and many other experts developed to improve health services. In the near future, digital speech recognition becomes the standard in all clinics in Lower Austria. Almost 300 doctors are currently using the new software that generates findings in real time and thus guarantees more precise documentation.
initiatives to improve the social environment
Mikl-Leitner also mentioned the largest childcare offensive in Lower Austria, which aims to improve the compatibility of family and work. In addition, a reduction in bureaucracy is sought through the "task criticism" in order to make the state administration more efficient. This is supported by the use of artificial intelligence, which should be used not only in health care, but also in other important areas.
At the award ceremony, Dr. Felix Sedlmayer, university professor, on behalf of the honored and emphasized the commitment of everyone present for Lower Austria. The excellent include Margit Straßhofer, who received the "Great Golden Medal of Honor for Services around the state of Lower Austria", as well as Honorary Fire Councilor Helmut Czech, who was recognized with the "Silver Honor of Honor for Services for the state of Lower Austria". Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Christoph Pöttinger was awarded a federal honor.
The health plan and the associated initiatives underline the endeavors of Lower Austria not only to ensure the quality of life of the citizens, but also to create future-proof structures in health and social affairs. The upcoming digitization will help to improve the quality of treatment and efficiency in the entire region.
