Health care in Burgenland: women at the center

Health is important for everyone, and Burgenland is working on comprehensive health care that takes regional needs into account. Governor Hans Peter Doskozil emphasizes that it is important to ensure high-quality health care close to home that benefits all Burgenlanders.

As part of a health talk, Doskozil said that the goal is to avoid two-tier medicine. For this purpose, several projects are being pushed forward, such as the location guarantee for five hospitals. The new clinic in Oberwart and the planned new building in Gols are significant steps in this direction.

Women's health in focus

In recent years, women's health has received more attention. Burgenland has launched several initiatives to address the health needs of women. For example, an innovative breast cancer screening program was launched in 2005. In addition, an HPV vaccination campaign took place in schools in 2008.

The Feminina information centers, which are represented in all seven Burgenland districts, offer important support for women. The women's strategy “Equal *into the Future” shows that the topics of women's health and equal health opportunities are key areas of action.

To improve health care for women, specific areas in the clinics have been strengthened. For example, the breast health department in Güssing was modernized and equipped with new technologies. This is done in collaboration with the newly founded oncology department in Oberwart and the fertility center in Oberpullendorf.

Different health risks

The need to differentiate between men's and women's health has now been scientifically proven. The course of the disease and health risks vary depending on gender. When it comes to prevention, diagnosis and therapy, it is therefore necessary to take biological and socioeconomic differences into account. The approach here is a question of gender equality.

In order to further promote women's health, significant investments have been made in health infrastructure in recent years. The clinics in Burgenland now offer comprehensive care, especially at the Güssing and Eisenstadt locations, which have specialized gynecological departments. In this way, a dense network of contact and treatment centers for women can be guaranteed.

Another example of progress in this area is the introduction of the “Female Doctors Package”, which includes, among other things, high salaries for women in medicine. As a result, the number of qualified applications for vacant positions in clinics in Burgenland has increased significantly.

A current issue is the insufficient number of gynecologists in some regions of Burgenland. A new outpatient clinic with a focus on gynecology in Güssing is intended to help close this gap in care. The project is currently being examined in collaboration with the Austrian Health Insurance Fund.

In addition to medical care, the issue of balancing work and family life is addressed. Measures such as free kindergarten and the Burgenland minimum wage are intended to support women in their living situation.

Governor Doskozil also cites a healthy lifestyle as part of his own health strategy and shows the importance of balancing professional stress with exercise. This highlights the need for a holistic approach to promoting women's health.
