Major fire in the PuchasPLUS thermal hotel: guests safely evacuated
There was recently a dramatic incident at the “PuchasPLUS” thermal hotel in Stegersbach that required an immediate evacuation of all guests. The fire, caused by a tumble dryer that burst into flames, led to a massive fire brigade operation and the highest fire alarm level was raised.
On the evening of the incident, at 7:55 p.m., the state security center alerted the fire departments of the surrounding communities, including Stegersbach, Oberwart, Ollersdorf, Pinkafeld and Bocksdorf. The emergency services were quickly mobilized and rushed to the hotel, which was already enveloped in thick smoke.
Bring guests to safety
The situation was tense as guests were woken up by the loud beeping of fire alarms and had to immediately flee in panic. Many were only wearing bathrobes as they rushed out of the hotel. When the fire brigade arrived, they were already met with thick smoke coming from the basement area of the multi-story building.
The firefighters fought the fire using heavy breathing apparatus and several extinguishing lines. Initial information suggested that the clothes dryer was responsible for the fire, which quickly spread throughout the hotel.
To the emergency shelter together
In addition to the fire brigade, many rescue units and police officers were at the scene. The mayor of Stegersbach, Jürgen Dolesch, was also on site and supported the affected guests. He ensured that the evacuees could be safely accommodated in a neighboring hotel, the Allegria Hotel. “I was able to arrange with the manager of the Allegria Hotel that all Puchas guests could be accommodated there,” explained Dolesch.
The fire brigade quickly determined that the fire could be brought under control and after around 30 minutes of action they had taken the first measures to ventilate the hotel. However, clearing the smell of smoke and restoring safety to the hotel complex will still take some time.
While emergency services continued to work to clear smoke from the hotel, guests remained in the emergency shelter until further notice. The closure of the “PuchasPLUS” thermal hotel will last indefinitely until the building can be considered safe for the return of guests.
