Brutal attack in Vienna: Three men seriously injure a 24-year-old!
On Easter Sunday, shortly after 7 p.m., the police in Vienna-Favoriten were alerted to a violent confrontation. On site, officers found a 24-year-old suffering from a bleeding head injury. The young man reported to the emergency services that he had been verbally attacked on the way home in Gellertgasse by three unknown men for no apparent reason, as Kosmo reports.
Despite ignoring the provocative statements, the situation quickly escalated. One of the attackers hit the victim twice in the back of the head with a glass bottle until the bottle broke. The two accomplices also attacked the victim physically and attacked him with punches. After the brutal attack was over, the perpetrators fled the scene. Despite an immediate search, the attackers could not be caught. After initial treatment by paramedics, the injured man received further medical treatment in a hospital.
Increasing violent crime in Vienna-Favoriten
The investigation into this incident, which police consider to be particularly violent, is ongoing. The security forces are asking the public for information, which can be submitted anonymously. What is worrying is that crime statistics for Favoriten show an increase in violent crime, particularly in relation to assaults and attacks with weapons. In the first months of 2025, several investigations into comparable violent crimes have already been initiated in the Favoriten area.
The Vienna police have announced that they will increase their visible presence in areas identified as hotspots and will regularly carry out targeted operations to combat street crime. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, the police crime statistics record all reported cases electronically and are used for strategic planning of criminal police measures. The development of criminal events in Austria is continuously monitored and evaluated.
The long-term analysis of crime development and the separate consideration of social phenomena have a decisive influence on the strategy of the security authorities to effectively combat crime. Annual security reports, prepared by the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Justice, provide detailed information about the PCS and criminal policy developments.
In view of the recent incidents in Vienna, it is hoped that the increased police measures will have a positive effect on the increasing violent crime.
