In Hafjell, Norway, the Swiss put in an impressive performance in the giant slalom at the Alpine Ski World Championships. Loïc Meillard leads the race after the first round with a minimal lead of just 0.08 seconds over his compatriot Thomas Tumler. Marco Odermatt, the overall World Cup winner, sits in third place, just 0.30 seconds behind the leader. However, several skiers are close together, which creates excitement, as Austria's Stefan Brennsteiner is also in a promising fourth place with the run proven in Hafjell, just 0.21 seconds behind the podium, reported oe24.at.
The exciting competition and the possible decisions
The second run, which starts at 12:30 p.m., will show whether Marco Odermatt can expand his point cushion in the discipline World Cup over his closest rival Henrik Kristoffersen. With a lead of 41 points, the situation is currently favorable for him, especially since Kristoffersen was 1.48 seconds behind the leader in the first round nau.ch reported. Giant slalom world champion Raphael Haaser also has his eyes on a top ten spot, with the next best Austrian, Marco Schwarz, struggling 1.44 seconds behind.
