30 nations celebrate at the United World Games in Klagenfurt!
On Friday, June 20, 2025, the opening evening of this year's United World Games took place in the Klagenfurt stadium. This significant event attracts 8,500 young people from 30 nations and is expected to last four days. This year the sports program includes ten different disciplines, including tennis, basketball, rugby and field hockey. The United World Games have set themselves the goal of promoting peace, friendship, respect and tolerance among the participants. The youth games that have taken place since 2005 offer a platform for sports enthusiasts between the age of U9 to U19 to measure themselves in a fair competition.
Governor Peter Kaiser emphasized the importance of these games for the international connection and emphasized that the event gives Carinthia international attention. State Councilor Sebastian Schuschnig added that the games offer tourist impulses for the region in the pre -season and the opportunity to present Carinthia internationally cannot be assessed highly enough. The organization of the games is in the hands of chairwoman Elisabeth Puschhan, who, together with a dedicated team, guarantees the event at a high level.
accommodation opportunities and costs
Participation in the United World Games includes a basic package that includes a participation fee, three nights in an accommodation with breakfast and five meals in the food court. Participants can choose from various accommodation options, including camping, UWG Camp and hotels in different categories. However, in order to ensure an optimal selection of accommodation, an early registration of a association is recommended. Additional costs may apply for shuttle tickets and additional events. Bookings and registrations are made via a personal UWG account.
intercultural exchange through sport
The importance of such international youth events is also underlined by initiatives such as those of the Sportjugend Berlin. This organization has been active in international youth work for many years and pursues a strong focus on intercultural exchange through sporting encounters. Sports youth uses sport as a kind of “common language” to reduce prejudices and promote interest in other cultures. Current exchange programs with countries such as Japan and Israel are just a few examples of the active role that sports youth plays in international youth work. Participants not only learn from the different cultures, but also develop language skills and personal skills.
The United World Games are therefore more than just a sporting event. They represent a valuable opportunity to close friendships across national borders and act as a real forum for intercultural exchange, which is so important for today's youth. In this sense, the event will leave a sustainable impression for both the participants and for the entire region of Carinthia.
