The focus of 30 years of education: Vienna's success story of day care
On August 27, 2025, Education at Mentpunkt GmbH (BIM) celebrates its 30th anniversary in Vienna. This central sponsoring organization, which has been responsible for day care and holiday care in Vienna since 2019, has had an impressive development. The founding history of the BIM goes back to 1995 with the Viennese child and youth care association. BIM currently looks after 165 locations where over 3,200 employees accompany around 44,700 children.
Vienna plays a pioneering role in day care in school in Austria. As the Mayor of Vienna Michael Ludwig emphasizes, day care for school is of great importance for families and children. Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling also emphasizes the commitment to equal opportunities and integration. From the school year 2025/26, there will be a total of 241 locations in Vienna with day -to -day care, including 112 crossed all -day schools and 129 open schools. Around 50 new locations have also been opened in the past five years.
Diverse care offers
The BIM offers a comprehensive concept of leisure pedagogy that aims to promote the personal and social competence of the children. All -day care takes place directly at the school location and is an integral part of the overall educational concept. The main areas of the care include:
- Gemeinsam spielen
- Gemeinsam Neues entdecken
- Gemeinsam kreativ sein
- Gemeinsam Bewegung und Sport machen
- Gemeinsam essen
The children have the opportunity to develop their talents in projects that range from painting to music to sport. Access to outdoor areas also promotes physical activity and social learning. As reported on the Vienna Education side, the focus is on a pedagogical environment, the creative handling of materials and democratic action in school parliaments.
Training and integration
The legal foundations for all -day care are based on the School Education Act and the Vienna School Act. The school owners decide on the form of all -day care, which is offered in two organizational forms: "separated" and "intertwined". These two models offer various approaches to take into account the needs of children and parents and at the same time to support the compatibility of work and family.
For parents, all-day care means greater equality of opportunities and the possibility of better reconciling work and family life. The educational offers not only make a contribution to learning motivation, but also promote creative development and social exchange between different social groups and cultures.
With the change to the retirement of BIM managing director Mario Rieder at the end of the month there is a new era. In the future, the city of Vienna will continue to focus on the importance of day care and its positive influence on the development of children.
