A 44-year-old man of Turkish origin has to answer for the murder of another countryman. The charge is related to a drug courier trip that ended in a fatal incident. In preparation for his trial, which began on February 18, 2025 and lasted three days, the defendant denied the murder charge but admitted his involvement in the drug drive and the killing. He was also acquitted of the charge of raping an acquaintance. He reported in court about threats he had received: either he had to pay 300,000 euros or hand over the family supermarket, otherwise his life would be in danger.
Arrest and extradition
The defendant was arrested on the Hungarian-Serbian border in Röszke. Delivery to Austria is planned for May 2024. The arrest was made under the European Arrest Warrant (EAW), which allows the judicial authorities of one EU country to request the arrest and surrender of a person in another EU country.
