Vienna Grätzl Initiative: New impulses against vacancies in shops!
The city of Vienna has taken a significant step towards revitalizing empty business premises with its new initiative “Grätzlinitiative 20+2 – Calls”. The aim of this joint campaign by WieNeu+ and the Vienna Business Agency is to sustainably upgrade the Grätzl in order to strengthen the local economy and social life. The opening of the “Deaf Space” cultural center in Vienna Brigittenau marks the start of the initiative with a total of three winning projects that were selected from over 60 submissions. These projects exemplify the innovative strength of the young entrepreneurs, who have been working for several months to rent suitable business premises and benefit from extensive funding.
“Deaf Space” represents significant progress as the first cultural center for deaf people in Vienna. It will provide communal spaces that can be used free of charge and offer a wide range of courses. In addition, the initiative includes two other exciting projects: the HOLi Social Health Hub, which follows a weight-neutral approach and focuses on holistic care and anti-weight discrimination, and solidarity farms such as “Ouvertura & GeLa Ochsenherz”, which offer affordable and organic food and create space for neighborhood kitchens and gatherings.
Support for young entrepreneurs
The support of the district leaders shows that the Grätzlinitiative 20+2 – Call is seen as an enormous benefit for the revitalization of the ground floor areas. In addition, the City of Vienna will cover 50% of the net rental costs for the winners in the first three years, which significantly reduces the financial hurdles for new businesses. A maximum of 12,000 euros per year is provided for this, which sends a strong signal to the start-up community.
Young entrepreneurs also receive comprehensive advice and support from WieNeu+ and the Vienna Business Agency to successfully implement their business ideas. The initiative aims not only to reduce vacancies, but also to strengthen neighborhood structures and sustainably revitalize economic life in the individual neighborhoods.
