The Lower Austrian State Wine Awards are considered the largest independent wine competition in the state and include more than 5,500 entries in 24 categories. The variety of wines ranges from still and sparkling to classic and strong to mature wines and rosé. This wide range illustrates the high quality and great diversity of Lower Austrian viticulture.
Overall, viticulture in Lower Austria is not only a cultural heritage, but also an important economic factor. The vineyard base survey regularly provides comprehensive data on the number of businesses, size structure and cultivated areas, which are important for one of the most important sectors of Austrian agriculture. This data is updated at regular intervals and contributes to the sustainable promotion and development of viticulture. According to Statistik.at, the aim is to convert the viticulture cadastre to an INVEKOS basis in the future in order to optimize the management of viticulture.
The Lower Austrian winemaking president Reinhard Zöchmann and the reigning Lower Austrian wine queen Laura Hummel underline the relevance of events such as the Lower Austrian wine gala and the Lower Austrian winner tasting not only for the winemakers, but also for wine lovers and the entire region.
