Eutiner Planscher celebrate 15 years of aquafitness: swimming for body and soul!

The "Eutiner Planscher" are a group of around 55 athletes from BSG Eutin, who have been meeting regularly for their aquafitness training for 15 years. This group, which describes itself humorously, recently celebrated its anniversary in the clubhouse in Weidetraße. Despite the name, the activities in the water have little to do with the carefree splash, as the trainer Kathrin Mees clarifies.

Aquafitness is a demanding sport that promotes physical fitness and mental mobility. "It protects the joints, improves the cardiovascular system and can help with weight loss," says Mees. She also reports on the numerous positive experiences that participants have had in recent years. The fun of moving in the water is always in the foreground.

The beginnings and the move

Kathrin Mees, who has been active on board since it was founded in 2009, tells of the beginnings of the group. Originally coming from children's gymnastics, she founded aquafitness after professional obligations no longer allowed her to work in the children's area. The training company started in the DRK therapy center in Middelburg with two units per week. After the swimming pool in Middelburg was closed in 2017, the group moved to the Kirsten-Bruhn-Bad in Eutin.

In these 15 years, around 250 people took part in the Aquafitness units. This also includes 36-year-old Franziska Morawietz, who has been part of the group since 2017. Originally she came to gymnastics with her sons, but the water proved to be the right choice for her own training. "The 45 minutes in the water are a break for me. Aquafitness is good for body and soul," she enthuses.

Experiences of the participants

Another example is Volker Hahn, 58 years old, who only joined the "Eutinian splashers" in March 2024. In search of a gentle sport that relieves his knee joints, he quickly liked aquafitness. "The community here is great and the activities in the water helped me a lot," he says.

In addition to the group in Eutin, there are also two other "Planscher" groups: one in Bad Malente who trains on Sundays from 5:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., and one in Sierksdorf that takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. The contact person for these groups is Metta Kramer, accessible at metta@diekuestenwerkstatt.de.

The "Eutiner Planscher" are a lively example of how not only fitness can be promoted through sport, but also creates community and joie de vivre in everyday life. More details on this topic can be found in a detailed report On www.shz.de.
