Munich takes off: Innovative passenger boarding bridge revolutionizes Terminal 2!

Technological revolution at Munich Airport!

Flughafen München GmbH (FMG) is taking big steps into the future! Together with the Lufthansa Group and the Terminal 2 Company (T2), technological innovation is being taken to a new level. A groundbreaking remote-controlled passenger boarding bridge (FGB) that could revolutionize airport operations has been being tested since mid-October. In an exciting six-month pilot phase, the possibilities of this new technology will be tested under realistic conditions, including weather and obstacles. The goal? All passenger boarding bridges will soon be equipped with this innovative control system!

The testing phase is already in full swing! The passenger boarding bridge is controlled from a container that serves as a temporary control center. Initially, the test runs will be carried out on a mock aircraft, and the successful start of a test run with the Spanish specialist DIMAIM shows that progress in this area is promising. But that's not all! Another exciting project is the introduction of an unloading aid in the baggage handling system in Terminal 2. This new technology will make the handling of luggage and transported goods significantly more efficient and drastically reduce the physical effort for employees.

Claim to leadership at the Munich hub

“We are very pleased to be working with the Lufthansa Group and the Terminal 2 company to advance innovative projects like this,” explains Jost Lammers, CEO of Flughafen München GmbH. This close collaboration makes it possible to develop future-oriented solutions and sustainably strengthen Munich Airport. Jens Ritter, CEO of Lufthansa Airlines, emphasizes: "It is an important step to take a pioneering role at our Munich hub. Our goal is to provide our guests with a premium travel experience - automation and the focus on future technologies are relevant pieces of the mosaic on our way there."
