Fire brigade in continuous use: fire and smoke alarm at Christmas!
Asten, Österreich - On December 25, 2023, the Vienna Neustadt volunteer fire brigade was called to storm damage at night. At 2:13 a.m., a fallen tree blocked a sidewalk and the entrance of a house on Wiener Straße, as wn24.at reported. The fire brigade quickly removed the obstacle and informed the police. After this first campaign, the unit became active again in the early afternoon when it was called to a door opening. However, this use could be canceled on the way.
Another remarkable incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. when the fire brigade was alerted to a suspicion of fire in Steinabrücklergasse. A resident of an multi -party house had raised the alarm because the home smoke detector from a neighboring apartment sounded and a smell of burned was in the air. The fire brigade moved out with a fire truck and found a smoky apartment. An older lady was medically supervised on site with suspicion of flue gas poisoning, while the fire brigade removed the cohable pan from the stove and ventilated the apartment. Fire brigade commander Christian Pfeiffer emphasized: “Home smoke detectors save life, but you have to react to the signals.”
