Zelensky: North Korean soldiers captured in Kyiv!

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that more North Korean prisoners of war are expected in the Kursk region. He announced this via the X platform and noted that the Russian army relies on military support from North Korea. Zelenskyj criticized Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, who is said to have tried to rewrite history.
In a video address, Zelensky released a video of two wounded suspected North Korean prisoners being questioned during their arrest.

Zelensky emphasized that Kiev was ready to hand over the North Korean prisoners to Kim Jong Un if he took care of the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war from Russian captivity. In addition, alternative options are available for North Korean soldiers if they do not want to return to their home country. It is estimated that North Korea has sent around 12,000 soldiers to Russia to fight in the Kursk region, with these soldiers equipped with Russian uniforms and weapons.

Capture of North Korean soldiers

In another report from ZDF it is stated that Zelenskyj specifically spoke about the capture of two North Korean soldiers in the Russian Kursk Oblast. They were injured and were taken to Kyiv, where they received medical help. In his video speech, Zelensky also mentioned that the press had access to the prisoners and that they could communicate with the Ukrainian domestic secret service SBU.
A US government official confirmed that North Korean units had suffered heavy losses in the Kursk region. This is the first official report of captured North Korean soldiers who survived.

There were previously reports of the capture of seriously injured North Korean soldiers who died shortly afterwards. The Ukrainian military launched a relief attack on the Eastern Front in Kursk in August, where it gained control of several hundred square kilometers. According to military circles, numerous North Korean soldiers are said to have died in the region, leaving hundreds dead and injured.
North Korea is also said to have delivered large quantities of artillery shells to Russia. Russian authorities have not yet commented on the presence of North Korean troops in Kursk.

Zelensky further explained that the North Korean soldiers were captured by Ukrainian special forces and paratroopers. A video released by the SBU shows the prisoners, one of whom suffered a facial wound and the other a broken lower leg. A doctor reported that one of the soldiers had a Russian military document, but it was registered to another person, while the other soldier had no documents with him.
