Zweibrücken runs for victory: Together against the November blues!
The Germany-wide movement campaign “City – Country – on Foot” inspires! For the third time, this exciting project is being organized by Edzard Wirtjes in Leer, East Frisia, to motivate people to exercise more in the fresh air during the cold season. The goal? Boost the cardiovascular system, strengthen the immune system and fight the cloudy “November blues”! The race will take place from November 1st to 21st and the participants are eager to collect the most kilometers!
The Zweibrücken walking friends are there! “Last year we achieved second place and we are doing everything we can to be at the top this time!” explains Ilka Bothner, the group leader. With a special app that documents all the kilometers walked, she can keep an eye on everything. Whether it’s the way to work or shopping – every step counts! What once started with five friends has now developed into a lively group of 50 people aged 45 to 83 who enjoy walking together despite physical limitations.
Together against the weather!
Despite the wet and cold weather last Thursday, the 20 or so friends who went for a walk were not deterred. “Overcome your weaker self and get off the sofa!” was the motto, and so kilometers were diligently collected. Wolfgang and Claudia, both over 60, as well as the couple Gerhard and Gabi with their walkers, were also there. “It's much more fun in a group than sitting at home alone!” says Birgit, who came especially from Saarland.
The walking friends have currently covered 5,838 kilometers, with some participants managing between 20 and 25 kilometers every day! Even those who have “only” completed 15 kilometers since the start of the campaign are celebrated – because every step counts! The group meets regularly on Mondays at 10 a.m. and Thursdays at 3 p.m. at the Bismarck Monument on Herzogplatz. New faces are welcome and registration is not required.
