Austria's combiners cheer: Sensational silver medal at World Cup!
In a remarkable competition, the Austrian Nordic combiners triumph at the World Cup in Trondheim and secure the silver medal in the team competition. The quartet consisting of Johannes Lamparter, Martin Fritz, Fabio Obermeyr and Franz-Josef Rehrl fought an exciting duel with the German team and achieved a sensational success, such as the Kurier reported. Surprisingly, the Austrians went to the trail after Norway's Jörgen Graabak was subsequently disqualified due to a binding error and his team fell to fifth place.
The start runner Johannes Lamparter brought the team into the lead with a lead of 13 seconds after the German athlete Rydzek fell shortly before the finish. Franz-Josef Rehrl was able to claim the lead on the second cross-country skiing round, but Martin Fritz soon found trouble when he was overtaken by Julian Schmid, which is why the Austrians suddenly return 6.6 seconds. Fabio Obermeyr, who was used as the final runner and had to bear the same amount of responsibility at his first World Cup participation, fought Hart and was able to reduce the gap to Germany's Vinzenz Geiger. As Obermeyr to Laola1 wrote: " Responsibility." Despite a spectacular final spurt, it was ultimately not enough for gold, since Geiger set the decisive attack at the crucial moment and Germany secured first place.
an unforgettable World Cup experience
This silver medal marks a career highlight for Obermeyr and his team. "We will probably no longer experience something big and cool in our lives as an active athlete," added the 24-year-old, who is already looking forward to the upcoming individual competition. While the ÖSV combiners return home with a total of three World Cup medals, including silver and two bronze medals, he also announced: "I let it come to me" and waived a specific result for the next race.
