Rhein-Kreis Neuss is giving away 1,000 climate trees – reserve now!

Another interesting initiative is being launched in the Rhine district of Neuss: 1,000 climate trees will be given away to the interested population. This campaign has been very popular in recent years and the district has decided to offer it again this year. The variety of fruit trees available is remarkable; you can find apple tree varieties such as Elstar and Boskoop, pear trees of the Gute Luise variety, as well as cherries and medlar. Rowanberries and sweetgum are also available.

The trees, which reach a proud height of between 1.70 and 2 meters, are delivered in practical pots, which makes planting easier. From October 21st at 8 a.m., interested citizens can reserve their dream trees online. To ensure fair distribution, only one tree reservation is possible per household. Collection will take place at several locations in Neuss, Grevenbroich, Kaarst and Korschenbroich, on four different dates in November 2024.

Commitment to environmental protection

District Administrator Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke emphasizes that this campaign is about giving citizens the opportunity to actively contribute to environmental protection. This can be done by planting a tree that not only beautifies your property but also has a positive impact on the environment. Mayor Ursula Baum expects that many Kaarst citizens will take this step towards environmental protection and is looking forward to new trees in the region. She emphasizes the benefits of tree planting: “A new tree helps improve air quality and helps regulate the microclimate.”

However, some legal requirements must be observed when planting, in particular the required distances from neighboring properties. The potential height of the trees is also an important criterion. The fruit trees can grow up to 10 meters high, while the sweetgum tree can reach heights of 10 to 30 meters. The rowan tree grows between 6 and 12 meters high. In order to keep the size of the trees within an appropriate range, growth can be controlled by pruning.

If you need further information about the different tree species and the online order form, you will find the details online from October 21st at 8 a.m. This creates easy access to this environmentally friendly option, which allows citizens to actively contribute to improving the environment and at the same time beautify their own homes.

Whether you choose a tree that provides shade or one that bears fruit - the decision lies with the citizens. Of course, anyone interested in a tree should act quickly as the number of trees available is limited.
