Miriam Menzel-Krämer: Mahnwache behind bars against nuclear weapons!
Herlikofer Straße 19, 73525 Schwäbisch Gmünd, Deutschland - On December 4, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., the 59-year-old social worker and quäker Miriam Menzel-Krämer will compete in the JVA Schwäbisch Gmünd. This brave woman was sentenced to 30 daily rates in the second instance because on May 8, 2023, together with seven other activists, she held a vigil against the storage of atomic bombs at the Büchel military airfield in the Eifel. "It takes courageous steps and determined action to interrupt the spiral of violence," she explains her resistance to Germany's "nuclear participation". Since she refused to pay the fine, she will now stand up behind bars for her beliefs - a "vigil behind bars" that has already given 22 other inmates in Germany.
The Büchel military location is not an ordinary place: around 20 US atomic bombs are stored here, which are intended for use by German soldiers. This contradicts the nuclear weapon blocking contract, which Germany has also ratified. Menzel-Krämer sees her civil disobedience, the unauthorized entry of the military area, as an obligation to draw attention to the acute danger of a possible atomatic weapons. The planned "modernization" of the atomic bombs, which are to be replaced by new B61-12 bombs, is particularly alarming-a development that is intended to increase the explosive power and accuracy in order to make it "better".
protest and vigil
On the occasion of her in prison, a vigil in front of the JVA Schwäbisch Gmünd will take place at Herlikofer Straße 19 on December 4 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Menzel-Krämer, who grew up in the GDR and campaigned early on against militarism and for peace, is available for interviews. Their history is characterized by civil courage and the tireless efforts for a peaceful world. "I learned from history that what is convicted today as wrong behavior can be considered in mind as urgently necessary," she emphasizes. Her commitment is part of the campaign "Büchel is everywhere! Free nuclear weapons. Now" and an urgent appeal to society to raise against the nuclear threat.
