Dierhäger Krabben” daycare center: children return after asbestos renovation!

Dierhagen.A dramatic move has taken place in Dierhagen! The “Dierhäger Krabben” daycare center was heavily contaminated with pollutants, which required the children to be evacuated immediately. After an intensive renovation phase, the little ones can now finally return to their daycare center. The joy is great because the new premises are not only safe, but also inviting!

However, the older kindergarten children still have to wait. They are currently staying in a school after school, while a move is planned for them next year, as Mayor Christiane Müller (Alliance for Dierhagen electoral group) informs. The new building became necessary after asbestos was discovered in the old building, which resulted in the closure and the children's move to the Dörphus.

New daycare center and cost explosion

The costs for the new building, including demolition and asbestos disposal, amount to a shocking 2.1 million euros! The municipality had to provide the financing itself because a promised funding was lost due to a deadline being missed. But the sum could be secured with a supplementary budget. Mayor Müller described the new building as an “investment in the future”.

A container building will now be built on the site, which will offer space for three groups and its own kitchen. The estimated costs for this container variant are 1.1 million euros. While the children were looked after during the transition period, the anticipation of the new, modern premises is palpable. Daycare manager Regina Urban emphasizes the importance of high-quality care for the little ones.

A total of 18 crèche and kindergarten children will be looked after in the new facility; around 40 additional children can later be accommodated using the planned container variant. The discovery of harmful substances in the old building prompted the local council to decide to demolish it to ensure the safety of the children. A courageous step towards a healthy future!
