A 39-year-old Syrian faces serious allegations in Austria, since he presumably acted as a supporter of the Islamic State (IS) before fleeing to Austria in 2019. Despite his asylum status, which was granted to him in 2020 because there was no evidence against him, stressful information from Germany arose that associated him with war crimes. As the ORF reports, the accused should be seen in a video in which he calls an IS slogan into the camera. Experts have also created a facial biometric report that confirms his identity.
In the ongoing legal proceedings, he is accused of having provided a business to accommodate Jesidi prisoners. While his defense points out that the accused is obviously not armed with a machine gun on a truck, the presumption of innocence remains until the opposite. In order to check further evidence, the negotiations on April 2 were postponed.
