Taxi prices in the Verden district: increase of up to 27 percent planned!
In the Verden district, taxi customers are facing a new price explosion! After a noticeable increase in tariffs in 2022, it will become even more expensive in the first quarter of 2025. The association of taxi companies is now calling for drastic price adjustments, which could put a significant strain on passengers' wallets. However, the exact new prices are still unclear and will soon be up for debate in Bremen.
The cooperation between the districts of Verden, Cuxhaven, Rotenburg (Wümme), Osterholz and Stade with regard to taxi prices has been established for years. The taxi companies are not allowed to set their own prices, but must stick to the common tariffs. After a 25 percent price increase two years ago, taxi companies believe prices are still too low. The Lower Saxony Transport Association (GVN) is proposing to increase prices by almost 27 percent. The basic price for a taxi ride should rise from 6.30 euros to 8 euros, while each additional kilometer should cost 2.90 euros.
Wheelchair surcharge should be eliminated
The discussion about the tariff adjustment is complicated by the analysis of the Hamburg valuation service. This only requires an adjustment of 7 percent, which is far below the GVN's demands. Instead of 8 euros for the basic price, a suggestion of 6.70 euros is made. In addition, the wheelchair surcharge, which was introduced in 2022 and is considered discriminatory, is to be abolished from 2025. This is sharply criticized by social associations and the district advisory board for the disabled as it affects the social participation of people with disabilities.
The Verden district administration has already agreed on the tariff adjustment proposed by the expert and will discuss the issue in detail in the Fire Protection and Regulatory Affairs Committee on Thursday, November 14th. The meeting begins at 4 p.m. in the district committee room of the Verden district building. The decision on the new tariffs could have far-reaching consequences for taxi users in the Verden district!
