The rules for New Year's Eve fireworks have been set in Lower Saxony and Bremen: This year the regulations remain largely unchanged. How SAT.1 Regional reports, citizens in many cities such as Hanover and Bremen must continue to adhere to strict bans. In general, there is a ban on fireworks near places that are particularly worthy of protection, including half-timbered houses, schools, churches and retirement and nursing homes. In Hanover, for example, where firecrackers are banned in large parts of the city center, there will also be controls by the public order office for the first time. Violations can result in fines starting at 200 euros.
Extended prohibition zones in Bremen
In the city of Bremen, the ban on fireworks is being expanded the Senate press office reports. Fireworks are strictly prohibited within 150 meters of the historic Bremen town hall, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as in the famous Schnoorviertel. These measures are intended both to protect valuable historical heritage and to prevent dangerous situations in crowded areas, which were common in previous years. The police and public order office will also work to enforce the regulations here and may consider fines of up to 50,000 euros for violations.
While the rules in Göttingen also remain unchanged, Braunschweig is planning further regulations. Oldenburg and Wolfsburg, on the other hand, have not yet imposed any additional restrictions and currently see no need for stricter regulations. However, the general vulgarity and dangerousness of New Year's Eve remains a key concern for the authorities to ensure everyone's safety.
