Throughout Germany, high -ranking politicians and representatives of society are commemorating this historical day, which stands for resistance to National Socialist rule. Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) speaks 250 Bundeswehr recruits in the Bendlerblock in Berlin, where the assassination attempt took place. He emphasizes that July 20th stands symbolically for resistance to injustice and for a better Germany. One of the best -known faces of the overthrow attempt is Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, whose fate is inextricably linked to that of this other conspirators such as Friedrich Olbricht and Albrecht Ritter Mertz of Quirnheim.
The tragedy of this day culminated in the night of July 20, 1944 when Stauffenberg and three co -conspirators were shot in the Bendler block. The memorial place
The memorial of German resistance, which is located at the historical place of attempt to overthrow Hitler, plays a central role in the culture of remembrance in Germany.
