Mayor Gajewi: Challenges and big plans for Priestewitz!
Manuela Gajewi was re-elected mayor of Priestewitz. Her last day of work of the year was without appointments, which gave her the opportunity to complete important tasks. In a conversation she emphasized the importance of family and time together. Gajewi also expresses concern about political and social developments in Germany, especially with regard to people's dissatisfaction.
The mayor sees challenges in maintaining tolerance and volunteerism in her community. The upcoming federal election and its possible impact on the municipalities in Saxony are also a topic of concern for her. Despite her satisfaction with the progress in the municipality, Gajewi criticizes bureaucratic obstacles that make the implementation of important projects more difficult.
Current and future projects
A central project in Priestewitz is the large construction site in the Zottewitz district, which is concerned with the renewal of a culvert for the Ritzschge waterway. According to Gajewi, the work is going well and completion is scheduled for the end of spring. In this context, Gajewi and the community also expect discussions about wind turbines in the region in the coming year. She reported that plans are already underway to build wind turbines in the area, which could potentially cause unrest in communities. She criticizes the communities' lack of say in such projects.
Another important concern is the energy-efficient renovation of the elementary school in Lenz. Gajewi plans to submit an application for funding for this renovation in January. In addition to the primary school, projects for the outdoor area of the Böhla-Bahnhof daycare center and the expansion of playgrounds are also on the agenda. Gajewi highlights the need for funding to ensure the implementation of these large projects. For the year 2025 she expresses her wish for health and good coexistence in the community.
Parallel to the developments in Priestewitz, a mayor's appeal was published in Bavaria with the aim of promoting wind power. The appeal “Successfully renewable together” calls on the Bavarian state government to create the necessary framework conditions for the expansion of wind energy. 432 mayors from Bavaria have signed this appeal by August 7, 2023. The appeal sends a strong signal for the expansion of local wind power projects, as these can not only help reduce CO2 emissions, but also create economic opportunities and promote jobs, as stated by Wind industry in Germany reported.
