Dispute over anchor center in Bamberg: City demands closure and living space!
The dispute over the anchor center for refugees in Bamberg escalates between the city and the Interior Ministry of Bavaria. According to a report by nordbayern.de , Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) sees no alternative to the anchor center in the city. He emphasizes the need for a powerful anchor device in Upper Franconia.
The city of Bamberg, on the other hand, calls for the timely closure of the anchor center and would like to acquire the area from the federal government to create living space there. The state government criticizes the city leadership for the lack of alternatives to accommodation refugees. Herrmann counters that no replacement is available on the real estate market and that spatial solutions would not only be expensive, but also not practical.
accommodation of refugees in Bamberg
like Infranken.de should be accommodated in Bamberg, if the anchor center should be accommodated as planned December 31, 2025. The city council has already excluded three areas in which accommodation is not advisable: Volkspark, Bamberg-Ost and Gereuth/Bamberg-Süd.
The anchor center in Upper Franconia, which has been the first point of contact for asylum seekers since 2018, is under the constant pressure of the state government to question the closure. Mayor Andreas Starke demands a fair distribution of asylum seekers from the state government and has proposed 26 own and abbey areas for a decentralized accommodation of refugees.
The city has created a list of "potential areas" that comprises various public green areas and parking spaces. According to the asylum implementation regulation, Bamberg is obliged to accommodate around 1,000 refugees from Upper Franconia, of which around 200 are already accommodated at two locations. The city also plans to provide social infrastructure such as schools and daycare places.
Citizens can make statements about the proposed locations by January 8th. The city council will also deal with the anchor center on November 27th.
