New government team in Styria: Who are the key people?
On December 17, 2024, the new state government of Styria will present its team and program for the next five years. However, Christopher Drexler, the previous ÖVP regional leader, will no longer be part of the management team. Instead, Manuela Khom, the former President of the State Parliament, takes over the position of Deputy Governor. However, the change not only has political but also financial consequences for Drexler, who now has to be content with a significantly lower salary as Second President of the State Parliament. While he previously earned 19,666.90 euros gross per month and would have received 18,631.80 euros as deputy governor, his new position is only paid 8,798.35 euros. This means that he loses almost 10,000 euros gross per month, which maintains his role in politics, but drastically lowers his financial rating oe24.at reported.
The coalition between the FPÖ and ÖVP in Styria was marked by intensive negotiations and the final government will consist of eight members. The state council seats are occupied by Stefan Hermann, Hannes Amesbauer and Claudia Holzer for the FPÖ and by Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, Simone Schmidtbauer and Karlheinz Kornhäusl for the ÖVP. Another exciting point that is expected is the decision on the construction of a new lead hospital in the Liezen district, as the two parties have made opposing election promises in this regard. While the FPÖ is vehemently against the construction of a new hospital, the ÖVP is clearly committed to it steiermark.ORF.at noted.
