Saif Ali Khan returns from hospital after knife attack

Mumbai, India - Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan left hospital in India's financial capital Mumbai on Tuesday, less than a week after he was injured in an attack with an intruder at his home, local media reported.

Details about the injuries

Khan, 54, was stabbed six times during an attempted burglary on Thursday night. He suffered stab wounds to his back, neck and hands, which required surgery, according to the doctors treating him.

Discharge from hospital

Khan was released from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. With a smile, he waved from his car to the TV cameras and showed his bandaged hand.

Arrest of the suspect

On Sunday, police arrested a man suspected of being connected to the attack. He is believed to be a Bangladeshi citizen and investigations are ongoing. The suspect, who was caught on the outskirts of Mumbai, used the name Vijay Das but is believed to be called Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad. He had come to the city five or six months ago and was working for a cleaning agency, said Dikshit Gedam, a deputy police commissioner, during a news conference.

Reactions to the incident

The attack on Khan shocked Mumbai residents as well as his colleagues in the Bollywood industry, especially since it took place in an affluent area and in a heavily guarded apartment block.
