Politics in the obligation: Improvement of the ME/CFS supply required!

In Austria, the ME/CFS community is desperately fighting for improving its situation. Despite increasing consciousness and promises on the part of the political parties, the care of the tens of thousands of people remains inadequate. Kevin Thonhofer, chairman of the patient organization ÖG Me/CFS, emphasizes: "ME/CFS has become visible in recent years, but those affected continue to be without any care and feel alone." The demands for urgently needed measures to improve treatment, maintenance, protection and research are expressed loudly. Gabriele Ströck from the WE & ME Foundation adds: "It is about a structure of basic structures, because there is no specialized help for ME/CFS affected."

The WE & ME Foundation, founded by the Ströck family, is committed to the task of approaching the challenges with which ME/CFS patients are confronted. Christoph and Philipp Ströck, even affected by the disease, know about urgency and the shortcomings in the health system. They report that the less existing specialized doctors often refuse proper diagnosis and treatment. As a result, many patients are caught in a vicious circle of isolation and deterioration of their health, often without hope for timely support or return to work. The commitment of the foundation aims to raise awareness and bring product research in order to sustainably improve the situation of those affected, as can be found on the official website of the WE & ME Foundation.

politicians must deliver

In the National Council, there is agreement on the need for changes for ME/CFS patients, but the disease is hardly recognizable from the protocols of the government negotiations. Despite unanimous promises of all parties to improve care, there are no concrete measures. "We are bitterly disappointed," says Thonhofer, calling for a clear commitment of those responsible. The catalog of demands of the ME/CFS organizations now urgently needs to be included in the political agenda. The next steps will be crucial to achieve vital help. The time for empty words is over; Now deeds have to follow, according to Gabriele Ströck and Kevin Thonhofer to the political decision -makers. It is high time that the seriously ill people are not abandoned.
