The Viennese opera ball is just around the corner and this year he has a very special focus on the crowning glory of Johann Strauss, the "Waltz King". On the occasion of his 200th birthday, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen visited the general rehearsal of the ball with Doris Schmidbauer to experience the atmosphere and get into conversation with the actors. According to a statement that Kleine Zeitung has prepared, the visit is necessary because such encounters are more difficult on the ball evening itself. Van der Bellen has been interested in the preparations for years, which must also be understood in 2019.
The dress rehearsal revealed the perfect symbiosis of Strauss and the opera ball. State Opera Director Bogdan Roščic presented an impressive opening, characterized by Strauss ’masterpieces. 20 dancers of the ballet floated over the parquet under the choreographic direction of Martin Schläpfer, followed by the "Spring Waltz Waltz", celebrated by the soprano Nadine Sierra. Tenor Juan Diego Flórez provided the Latin American flair with a soulful aria that delighted the audience. A real highlight was the appearance with the secret motto of the ball: "Where fun and where to go to great and lust", as Kleine Zeitung reports.
