Young religious in the USA: insight into life paths and trends!

A new survey by the Center for Apostolate (Cara) at Georgetown University provides exciting insights into the newcomers of the religious communities in the USA. In 2024, 140 people joined the order, including 73 women and 67 men who were on average 37 years old. The recent new entrances were only 25 years old, while the oldest members were 69 and 66 years old, as the Catholic news agency reported. A remarkable fact is that 93 percent of the respondents took part in a decision -making program before entering and almost 90 percent were already active in the Catholic Church, be it as editors, altar servers or in youth pastoral care.

The environment of the new religious plays a crucial role in their calling. According to Cara's survey, 90 percent grew up in a stable parents' house with at least one Catholic parent, with 87 percent information that both parents were Catholic. Over half attended a Catholic school, and 73 percent had an academic conclusion before entering. This can also be regarded as part of the changing society in the USA, since according to bpb.de At the end of 2013 around 37 million US Americans were born, which was born around 13 percent of the total population at the end of 2013 corresponds. These demographic changes show the growing variety in the US society and the influences that shape future generations.

In addition to origin, the influence of migration in the United States is becoming increasingly obvious. The respondents with a migration background came mainly from Asia and Latin America, which is an important aspect of American society, in which ethnic diversity and their integration are at all times movable topics. These observations are crucial to understand future developments in the religious and social landscape of the United States. The dynamic change in society, coupled with the unique calls of appeals by the religious, feeds on a historical and social complexity that needs to be observed.
