Rhine orange experienced anew: art and digital technologies in the Ruhr area!

On December 9, 2024, the fascinating exhibition “kleinorange – art meets innovation” opened in the Ruhr Gallery of Villa Artis, which revolves around the iconic sculpture Rheinorange. This 25 meter high landmark, which has marked the end of the picturesque Ruhr Valley since 1992, is a masterful creation by the sculptor Lutz Fritsch. With its bright color RAL 2004 pure orange, it not only symbolizes the transition between the Ruhr and Rhine, but also the industrial heritage of the region. Originally initiated by the economic juniors of the Duisburg industry, the Rhine orange was conceived as a symbol of change and cultural wealth in the Ruhr area Muelheim-Ruhr reported.

Modern interpretations and digital innovations

The exhibition presents two exciting perspectives on the Rhine orange. On the one hand, there is the miniature sculpture “kleinorange” by Ute Nowak, which shows the monumental sculpture in poetic contexts while it was staged parallel to various sights in the Ruhr area. On the other hand, the digital artist Funbot digitized the Rhine Orange using augmented reality (AR). This innovative technology allows visitors to experience the sculpture in new, interactive environments. The combination of art and state-of-the-art technology opens up completely new possibilities of perception and interpretation, making the exhibition a unique experience.

Overall, the exhibition not only highlights the historical significance of the Rhine Orange, but also shows how this landmark has become part of the route of industrial heritage. Its appeal remains a central part of cultural life in the Ruhr area to this day, and the past is impressively linked to the present. The exhibition will be on display until March 2, 2025, offering visitors the opportunity to delve deeply into the fascinating history and visual innovations surrounding this important sculpture, such as Kuladig emphasized.
