Power failures on the weekend: marten and sleeve paralyzing Vorarlberg!

Montafon, Österreich - At the weekend, two events in Vorarlberg ensured considerable power outages that affected hundreds of households. On Saturday evening in the municipalities of Schruns, Bartholomäberg, Vandans and St. Anton in the Montafon, electricity. A defective transformer, more precisely a damaged sleeve, was the cause of the failure that left around 10,000 inhabitants in the dark over a period of about five hours. During this time, not only houses and shops were affected, but also traffic lights and street lighting. The police also had to be active on the basis of a deception alarm, since a fire service was necessary in the affected communities, as the Krone reported.

Just a day later, another incident occurred in the Brandnertal. From 8:30 p.m., about 760 households were without electricity for an hour and a half after a marten caused a short circuit at a transformer station. According to Vorarlberger Energienetze GmbH, the disturbance lasted from 8:25 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The residents had to adjust to an unfavorable situation that was triggered by the small animal that hardly anyone would connect with such a devastating short circuit. This was reported by Orf Vorarlberg

These incidents illustrate the vulnerability of the infrastructure compared to unexpected disorders and the effects that even small animals or defective parts can have on the power supply. The repair work in Montafon lasted until shortly after 10 p.m., while the affected households in the Brandnertal were supplied again as quickly as possible.
