Security in Vienna: ÖVP presents a new 10-point package!
Wien, Österreich - The Wiener ÖVP has presented a comprehensive 10-point security package today, which includes a variety of measures to improve the security situation in the city. In a press conference, Karl Mahrer, the city leader of the Vienna ÖVP, expressed that security in Vienna was in a worrying state. While he pointed out that the city cuts off well in surveys, the feeling of security outside the popular districts has dropped sharply. He particularly criticized the fact that nodes such as Reumannplatz and Praterstern have become problematic focal points. The ÖVP chairman announced that the inactivity of the red-pink city government decidedly oppose, as reported on the OE24 website.
priority claims of the security initiative
A central element of the new security concept is the demand for up to 5,000 additional surveillance cameras in public space including subway stations, parks and residential complexes. These should not only strengthen the feeling of security, but also deter potential criminals. In addition, the ÖVP is urging the establishment of a city guard to increase the presence in public space and support the police. Another point of the agenda is the introduction of "zero tolerance zones" and specific emergency services for problem areas. In addition, the ÖVP wants to act against youth crime and is planning an offensive to prevention violence at schools. The Causa Vienna value that concerns Mahrer was also addressed, whereby he vehemently contradicted resignation and spoke of a "pure conscience", as can be read on press.wien.gv.at.
The entire initiative aims to sustainably improve the situation in Vienna and requires comprehensive measures, including the creation of its own security council. Mahrer and his team are of the opinion that the city must proactively make its own security agents instead of only relying on support from federal aid. This represents a radical approach to the previous security policy, which is no longer considered sufficient to master the current challenges.
