A total of 80 officers searched 18 locations, particularly in Euskirchen, where two main suspects, German-Lebanese women aged 35 and 42, were targeted by investigators. They are said to have systematically submitted false applications in order to obtain six-figure amounts from aid in an allegedly illegal process.

The police investigation already includes 182 cases against 136 suspects. What is particularly alarming is that the accused not only submitted false applications themselves, but also provided other ineligible people with the necessary documents in exchange for payment. These applicants then had to pass on up to 50 percent of the money paid out as aid to the fraudsters. When reviewing the applications, investigators discovered irregularities: several applications had identical descriptions of damage and funds were requested for damage that could not have occurred due to the characteristics of the apartments.
