Dramatic mountain rescue: 72-year-old fights for survival on Hohen Göll

A tragic incident occurred at Hoher Göll in which a 72-year-old ski tourer fell and was seriously injured. Two subsequent tourers heard his cry for help and provided first aid while alerting the emergency services. The situation escalated when the injured man was flown by emergency helicopter to the Innsbruck clinic, where he died from his serious injuries two days later, the police said.

The work on site was challenging. During a ten-hour rescue operation, dense clouds and snowfall meant that 15 mountain rescuers had to climb into adverse conditions to provide emergency medical care to the injured person and ultimately bring him over 1,200 meters into the valley. They were moving through dangerous, icy terrain, which meant that orientation was only possible with GPS devices, as visibility was at times less than three meters. At 7:30 p.m. the first emergency services finally reached the patient and brought him to safety, while the two first aiders, who had taken exemplary care of him, finally survived the rescue safely with the mountain rescue service.

How SALZBURG24 reported that the mountain rescue service ensured the patient's safety during the long journey back to the valley by securing ropes. At 1:30 a.m. the injured man finally arrived at the Bad Reichenhall district clinic, where he could receive medical care. This complex rescue operation underlines the commitment and professionalism of mountain rescue under extreme weather conditions.

This incident also sheds light on the dangers of ski touring in the Alps, especially in situations with poor weather and visibility. The emergency services were forced to use their skills to the fullest extent to rescue the seriously injured man under extreme conditions, an action that impressively illustrates the dangerous potential of mountaineering.
