With a clear plea for proximity to the citizens, Gericke called for a change in politics in the summer after he was part of a call that called for more commitment and a breath of fresh air in the state SPD. But the party leadership did not react, and after the previous leadership team was re-elected at the most recent party conference, the committed local politician pulled the ripcord. "None of the chairmen of the SPD Saxony-Anhalt connect any different currents. That's why I'm leaving this party after 30 years," he explains with disappointment.

However, Gericke will not disappear from the political stage completely. He plans to remain active as a sympathizer in the local association if desired.
