a shock for the nation
The Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze caused excitement on November 28 when he announced the surprising decision to suspend the EU accession talks for the Candidate City of Tbilisi. This announcement triggered a wave of protests accompanied by a hard police reaction. The situation escalated!
The police used tear gas and water cannons to drive the demonstrators apart. Over 400 people have been arrested since the beginning of the second wave of the riots. Violence not only caused outrage in Georgia, but also caused sharp criticism internationally.
a sign of hope
But the protesters cannot be intimidated! On Monday, some blew loudly in horns and whistles, while others kept a banner with the inscription "Less Russia is more freedom". A clear sign that people are fighting for their rights and their future!
In the meantime, a huge Christmas tree on the sidewalk was set up in front of the parliament in the city. Photos of people who were allegedly beaten by the police and protest flyers that were attached to the metal frame of the tree were removed the day before. A symbolic act that reinforces the tensions in the air!The situation in Georgia remains tense and the citizens are determined to raise their voice. The question remains: How long will the government ignore what people really want?
