Yacht Club Bregenz: Modernization brings new shine to the anniversary!
The Yacht Club Bregenz is about to have a significant stage in its history: the completion of the generally renovated clubhouse is expected for November 2023. This project aims to open to the first annual general meeting after the renovation and the 100th anniversary of the association. Chairman Oliver Böhler is optimistic and explained that one is largely on schedule, whereby the finances are regularly checked. This is particularly important after a complete new building was originally planned, which, however, was estimated by the Covid 19 pandemic, rising construction prices and higher interest rates at the expense of up to five million euros. Instead, the decision was made on a comprehensive general renovation with a budget of 2.1 million euros.
The responsible construction management ensured that the work is carried out professionally. In order to remain in financial framework, grants and private support are essential. The new building includes various structural improvements, including replacing the old Eternit roof with a new solid tiled roof with copper cladding. In addition, steel struts were drawn in and the foundation was reinforced to safely carry the additional load.
Offices and new premises
There were also extensive renovations indoors: windows and doors were replaced and the terrace has a new shape. The aim is to make the restaurant accessible to walkers and cyclists in the future. Newly created training and event rooms are equipped with modern technology, which will expand the uses of the association.
The anticipation of the new premises in November is great for the club members. The Yacht Club Bregenz has established itself as an important starting point in the region and with this project shows its will to further develop and adapt to modern demands. General renovation is intended to help carry the long tradition of the club into the future.
The context of cyber innovations
In a completely different area, the publication of documents by Wikileaks about the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) caused a sensation in 2017. This publication, known as "Vault 7", is considered the greatest disclosure of confidential information about the CIA and includes more than 8,700 documents from a highly secure network. The documents give an insight into the hacking capacities of the CIA, which has developed malware and "Zero-Day" exploits for many products. This shows how important transparency and public discussions about the powers of secret services are, as Julian Assange from Wikileaks emphasized.
The spread of cyber weapons and the associated risks are a separate, complex topic and are contrasting to developments in the Yacht Club Bregenz. While the club focuses on sustainable structural improvements, the topic of cyber security raises urgent questions about the responsibility and control of the latest technologies. It is a memory that the challenges are both physical and digital nature and require careful consideration.
