Magical Christmas: Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz from November 15th

From November 15, 2024, Rathausplatz in Vienna will be open to visitors again and will come up with a variety of attractions and festive stands. The Christkindlmarkt has been an integral part of the Viennese Christmas culture for 50 years and attracts both locals and tourists. This year the offers include 99 stands that sell all kinds of Christmas products - from craftsmanship to delicacies such as gingerbread and punch.

The popular market on Rathausplatz is not only known for its stalls, but also for the festive atmosphere that it creates. Here you can traditionally enjoy mulled wine, the price of which starts at 4.50 euros, while a punch is already available from 4 euros. The city of Vienna Marketing emphasizes that the stand operators have not received any price specifications, which ensures a certain range of prices. It is particularly gratifying that almost 80 percent of the offered drinks are available in organic quality.

Fascinating attractions for the whole family

The supporting program, which inspires young and old, ensures an additional festivity. The highlights include a huge carousel and a ferris wheel that transform the Christkindlmarkt into a kind of fair. Children are offered numerous activities, such as a “reindeer train” and a large children's hut with handicrafts. An ice skating area of 110 square meters is also available to small visitors, while the adults can do their rounds on the large ice skating area of 3,000 square meters.

It becomes particularly romantic with the "Herzerlbaum", which is decorated with 200 hearts and that lets a shining heart fly over the square every hour - a highlight for lovers and families alike. This year, 1,000 Christmas tree balls were also placed on the Christmas tree, which comes from Lower Austria and is an impressive 34 meters high.

Tradition and innovation

The design of the Christkindlmarkt is not only designed for festivity, but also for sustainability. All attractions are equipped with energy -saving LEDs to reduce ecological footprint. In addition, the cribs that are exhibited in the town hall park have been artfully produced by a local nativity club and offer an insight into modern interpretations in the Christmas story.

The anticipation for the Christkindlmarkt has increased through a survey by the trade association, which declares the market to be the third most popular Christmas market in Austria. The opening takes place on November 15 and the market will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until December 26, 2024, and only on December 24th it closes at 6:30 p.m.
