Christmas miracle in Vienna: Help for homeless people after fire!
After a devastating fire in the Caritas Noah House in Vienna-Donaustadt, the residents are now faced with the challenge of finding a bit of normality in alternative accommodation during the Christmas season. Thanks to the overwhelming willingness to help from volunteers and donors, important goods such as food, clothing and hygiene products were collected within a short period of time. The facility manager, Susanne Takacs, is grateful and explains: “We are incredibly grateful that so many people helped together in such a short space of time.” A special highlight will be the decorated Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, which will bring the residents great anticipation, despite the difficult circumstances.
Help and solidarity at Christmas
Caritas has its hands full offering support during the holidays. According to Caritas director Klaus Schwertner, it is crucial to provide queer support services to counteract isolation and poverty. People can have a conversation via the chat network every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., thereby alleviating loneliness during this festive season. In addition, the warming rooms remain open to provide those in need with a warm place, a meal and a piece of community. Families and older people in need can also find support, while homeless people are regularly looked after by street work teams.
Christmas Eve events include special feasts in the warming rooms and the provision of gifts to needy guests. A traditional Christmas dinner with schnitzel and potato salad is served in the crypt. Caritas also offers the opportunity to take action yourself, for example through monetary donations that arrive directly and can support many people. The Christmas surprises for the residents of the Noah House have also been specially prepared so that they can experience a little bit of normality during this challenging time. If you would like to help, you can find more information at Caritas gift shop.
The commitment of volunteers and willingness to donate show that solidarity is of great importance in difficult times. Christmas, which on the surface is a celebration of joy, is characterized by hardship and loneliness for many people, which is why help and support are essential, especially now today.at as well as OTS reported.
